Blue Man Group needed a set of full color persistance-of-vision displays. Nothing really existed that filled all of their needs, so they came to me to make them custom equipment.

There’s lots of stuff going on in these devices. Gamma corrected color, remote activation, on board storage, deterministic timing, and reliable operation were some of the features requested. The wands had to be light and strong, but also pack in a lot of very bright, high quality LEDs, an onboard microprocessor and a flash storage chip. I made special soldering equipment just to make the construction of these devices feasible. Blue Man placed multiple repeat orders, one for each production company. All together this is a broad, successful project, and it was a lot of fun to complete!
